UPHA Representatives Travel to Washington, DC in Support of PAST Act

UPHA Representatives Frankie Trull, Jennifer Dixon, Tammie Conatser and Donna Pettry-Smith traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with Congressmen and staff regarding the reintroduction of the PAST Act in the House of Representatives in January. The trip was organized as one of the action items to be implemented under the guidance of Frankie Trull, who was instrumental in mobilizing the strategic plan that helped the UPHA Task Force fight the USDA's proposed changes to the Horse Protection Act in 2016.

Horse World Saddened By The Loss of UPHA Hall of Famer Charles D. Smith

May 14, 2019

Charles D. Smith, a 2018 inductee into the UPHA Tom Moore Hall of Fame passed away peacefully this past weekend from complications following a stroke. Charlie brought much more to the table than an exceptional way with an American Saddlebred but he also had the knowledge of the breed to match. Not only was he a successful trainer and breeder, but he also gave back to the industry.

Nominations for UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame Now Being Accepted

The United Professional Horsemen's Association is accepting nominations for its annual UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame. UPHA is proud to offer two UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame Awards again this year; one presented at Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show, Lexington, Kentucky in July and the other at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in October.

The UPHA Young Professionals Launch the "$10 for 12" Campaign

The UPHA Young Professionals have linked arms with Nancy Becker in hopes of raising money for the UPHA Foundation. Each UPHA Young Professional Chapter representative is selling "$10 for 12" cards and will be asking for you to contribute $10 each month for 12 months or make a one time contribution of $120, both options are 100% tax deductible.

Nominate to the UPHA Classics Program By April 1 for Discount

March 09, 2019

Spring is just around the corner and it is time to nominate your American Saddlebred, Hackney Ponies and Morgan horses to the 2019 UPHA Classics Program. The $100 eligibility fee will be accepted with a postmark on or before April 1, 2019. After April 1, the eligibility fee becomes $150 per nomination.  Horse or pony must be nominated and eligibility fee paid prior to competing in a UPHA Classics class.  The owner, trainer and exhibitors must be current UPHA members.

UPHA Foundation Donates over $400,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; Ribbons of Service Participants Honored at UPHA National Conference

January 24, 2019

he UPHA Ribbons of Service program to date has raised over $400,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the efforts of UPHA youth members.  2018 proved just as successful as participants volunteered over 870 hours in community service and collected over $40,000 in funds to be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and other nonprofit charities. The United Professional Horsemen's Association Ribbons of Service program teaches UPHA members, age 21 & under, the importance of community service by donating their time to those in need while learning the value of helping those less fortunate by raising money for charity.

UPHA National Conference Successfully Unites Our Industry

The 2019 UPHA National Conference concluded on January 19 with a spirit of unity and purpose that left attendees optimistic and excited for the coming season and the future of our industry. AHHS, ARHPA,ASB Museum,ASHA,ASR, the and UPHA hosted meetings and forums on various topics of concern to our collective memberships.Many of the forums and meetings were attended by leadership and general membership from AMHA as well.Of great consequence was the formation of an ad hoc committee with representation for all our organizations that will give us one strong voice in discussions and negotiations with USEF aimed at achieving better relations and better governance from our national governing body. Should those negotiations fail to bear fruit, the unified committee and the leadership of our respective organizations are committed to exploring and developing options for improved governance.

Associations Unite in Negotiations with USEF

(Palm Springs, CA) A unified effort is under way to increase negotiating power with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). Leadership from the American Saddlebred Horse Association, the American Hackney Horse Society, American Road Horse and Pony Association and United Professional Horsemen's Association agreed to band together to address many concerns regarding USEF including minimal promotion of these breeds, lack of communication and unresolved policy issues.
